Advanced Zirconia and 2D Nanocomposites: Scientific Seminars and Webinars under the GlaCerHub Project

On 21 and 23 January 2026, two high-level scientific seminars titled “Advanced Zirconia – 2D Nanocomposites” were delivered by Dr. Rosalía Poyato at the FunGlass Centre, Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín. The events were supported by the GlaCerHub project and were streamed as online webinars, enabling participation from GlaCerHub consortium partners as well as the wider scientific community.

The seminars focused on current researchtrends in advanced ceramic materials, particularly zirconia-based composites reinforced with two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials. The programme included the following topics:

  • Tailoring the microstructure of advanced zirconia composites incorporating 2D nanomaterials through the control of processing (21 January 2026)
  • Mechanical and electrical properties of advanced zirconia ceramics incorporating 2D nanomaterials: potential applications (23 January 2026)

Both sessions provided valuable insights into how processing strategies influence microstructure and performance, as well as the potential applications of these advanced materials in engineering and technology.

Dr. Rosalía Poyato is a Senior Research Scientist at the Materials Science Institute of Seville (Spain). Her research is focused on ceramic matrix composites reinforcedwith two-dimensional nanomaterials, including graphene and 2D boron nitride, with particular emphasis on their mechanical and electrical properties and structure–property relationships.

The seminars and webinars offered an excellent platform for knowledge exchange, discussion, and dissemination of cutting-edge research in advanced ceramics and nanocomposites, contributing to the objectives of the GlaCerHub project in strengthening research excellence and collaboration.
