CEITEC BUT researchers involved in the GlaCerHub project introduced visitors to the role of ceramics and advanced multifunctional ceramics in mobile phones and other communication devices. Through presentations, demonstrations and conversations with researchers, visitors explored connections between materials research and familiar technologies, discovering applications of ceramics well beyond traditional pottery and tableware.

The programme also offered opportunities for hands-on exploration. Visitors, especially children, could examine the transparency and test the hardness of our transparent multifunctional ceramics, comparing their properties with those of plastics and glass. Working with real samples provided an accessible way to explore how materials that may look similar can have very different properties—and why material selection matters for a particular application.

The display also featured 3D-printed ceramics and examples of multimaterial ceramic additive manufacturing, introducing visitors to new possibilities for producing ceramic components. We warmly thank the MULTIMAT3D project and the spin-off company Ceraprint s.r.o. for providing these samples and helping make advanced ceramic manufacturing tangible and accessible to the public.

The event supported GlaCerHub’s commitment to public engagement and stronger connections between research and society. Alongside showcasing materials used in communication technologies, it created space for another important form of communication: direct dialogue between researchers and visitors.
