
Prof. Karel Maca from CEITEC BUT, a Czech partner in the GlaCerHub project, was invited to deliver a lecture at INTERPHOTONICS 2026 (8th International Conference on Photonics Research), held on 14–16 July 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
His invited presentation, "Processing of Transparent Polycrystalline Ceramics Doped with Various Rare Earth Elements and Transition Metals and Their Luminescent Properties," presented recent advances in transparent polycrystalline ceramics and highlighted their potential for photonic applications.
The lecture demonstrated that photonic materials are not limited to traditional glasses and single crystals, but that transparent ceramics represent a powerful alternative, combining excellent optical performance with the unique advantages of ceramic processing and compositional flexibility.


The presented research was carried out in close collaboration between CEITEC BUT and FunGlass – the Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, coordinator of the GlaCerHub project. The lecture directly reflects GlaCerHub's Research Domain 1 – Processing of Ceramic and Glass-Ceramic Materials, particularly Research Topic 1.1, which focuses on high-entropy ceramics, including transparent and luminescent materials.

Beyond presenting the latest scientific results, the invited lecture provided an excellent opportunity to showcase GlaCerHub research to an international audience working primarily in photonics and optical materials. It helped increase the visibility of the consortium's activities, demonstrated the potential of advanced transparent ceramics for photonic applications, and fostered new connections that may lead to future interdisciplinary collaborations at the interface of ceramic materials science and photonics.
