CEITEC BUT - European Researchers’ Night 2025

European Researchers’ Night at CEITEC BUT: Exploring the Wealth of Knowledge Through Ceramics

On this year’s European Researchers’ Night, CEITEC BUT joined the nationwide celebration of science with a program dedicated to the event’s main theme: Wealth. For our ceramic research groups, this theme took the form of the Wealth of Knowledge, inspired by the legacy of ancient philosophers and scientists.

Throughout the evening, visitors of all ages — small children, parents, and even grandparents —filled the CEITEC BUT premises, eager to discover and experience science first-hand.

Our researchers from the Advanced Ceramic Materials and Advanced Multifunctional Ceramicsgroups, together with colleagues involved in the 4Slurries project, brought history to life by introducing the Greek philosopher and scientist Theophrastus, who studied the transformation of clay through heat and laid the groundwork for ceramic materials.

Hands-on experiments and demonstrations attracted special attention, with children especially enjoying playful activities linked to sintering. The lively atmosphere lasted late into the night, as guests explored how ancient knowledge connects to today’s cutting-edge research.

The event once again showed how science can inspire curiosity, connect generations, and reveal the richness of ideas — both past and present.
